About me

Experience and Therapeutic Approach

My professional experience

I have worked in a wide-range of mental health settings, including:

  • Acute mental health

  • Community Mental Health Team

  • Substance misuse

  • Perinatal mental health

  • Early Interventions in Psychosis

  • Child and Adolescent mental health (SP-CAMHS)

Each of these areas has enhanced the experience on which I draw for my therapy. I continue to be committed to improving my knowledge and practice by studying for a Masters Degree in Consultative Supervision and attending many relevant training courses.

My therapeutic approach

I have a qualification in Person-Centred counselling, which is based on the core conditions of empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard. Over the years I have interweaved this approach into my CBT practice. This way of working allows me to be truly focussed on my clients' narrative - your story. By building a collaborative and non-judgemental relationship I aim to help you find the tools to solve the difficulties you are experiencing and discover new possibilities in your life.

Clinical Supervision

Consultative supervision is a service that offers supervision to professionals from a variety of core settings.

Clinical supervision for practising counsellors and psychotherapists is integral to ensuring a safe and professional environment for all to work in. The support from a clinical supervisor helps to ensure an effective and standardised approach to a therapist's work.

BABCP and BACP outline requirements for supervision in their members' ethical framework and it is a condition of their membership.

I have an interest in working creatively in supervision and make use of role play, sandtray, collage and creative writing. I feel that this way of working brings another level of insight into how we formulate presenting difficulties and work with specific CBT models. There is no pressure to work in this way, I can equally accomodate a more specific CBT approach to supervision.

Online and Telephone Supervision

I also offer supervision online and via telephone. I do not offer this service to student therapists in training as I feel that face-to-face supervision is really important to thoroughly explore their cases, listen to aspects of their work via recordings, and give feedback on CTS-Rs.

I offer Group supervision for a maximum of four supervisees.

Ethical and regulatory issues

As an accredited member of the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapists I have achieved and evidenced a high standard of professional practice. I actively adhere to their ethical framework and code of conduct, which you can read on their website (www.babcp.com).

I am also a registered member of  the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and therefore always work within their ethical framework, which is available on their website at www.bacp.com. The BACP is an accredited register with the Professional Standards Authority.
